Prof. David Jenkinson is an experienced martial artist and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt. Prof. David is knowledgeable in street smart self defence, sports jiu jitsu, MMA and anti bullying tactics for kids. David was born in Penrith in 1985. He is a true Western Sydney native, having lived in various suburbs around the area during childhood.
David was always interested in physical education and went on to complete his Cert IV Fitness in 2006. Later that year, David came across the documentary ‘The Smashing Machine’ and was inspired. He quickly discovered mixed martial arts (MMA) and began formal training.
He became a regular spectator of UFC and developed an interest in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, officially falling in love with the sport after being dominated by a much smaller blue belt during his first class.
He began formal training in BJJ in 2007 and joined Gracie Barra under Prof. Fabio Galeb in 2009.
David continued to develop his practice and skill when he met Sinem Jenkinson, another talented Martial Artist. The couple quickly bonded and married in 2014. Working in partnership both on and off the mat, David and Sinem opened Gracie Barra Hawkesbury in 2015.
David has competed in many tournaments at different belt levels. He received his black belt in December 2016, and his first degree under Prof. Marcelo Rezende 3 years later in December 2019.
Davids’ practice and passion continue to go from strength to strength. Having coached many athletes, kids and adults for tournaments, he uses his experience and enthusiasm to help others develop their skills and go on to win the gold!
David has taken every step to make sure his school is run as safely and professionally as possible. He has received accreditations in First aid and CPR and undergone a full working with children check. David is a proud and fully certified Gracie Barra instructor, eager to help you on your journey to BJJ greatness!
In his spare time, he enjoys a normal day to day routine at home and in the community. He particularly enjoys movies, gaming, spending precious time with his family and of course, getting in an extra training session here and there!
Born in Sydney 1983, Sinem grew up in Wentworthville, Aus. She began her love affair with martial arts early and started formal training in karate in 1994. She received her black belt in karate in four short years and began training in Tae Kwon Do in 2000.
She received her black belt in Tae Kwon Do in 2002. With two martial arts skills and a Diploma in Childcare under her belt, she began teaching karate for kids in 2004.
Sinem was always interested in helping children to learn martial arts skills and wished to be as supportive as possible in their development. So, she entered formal education and earned her Bachelor degree in Early Childhood in 2006.
Sinem continued to work with children and martial arts. She works part-time as a primary school teacher and continued to help children to learn and grow.
Always seeking ways to improve and challenge herself, she started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2014 with fiancé at the time, David. She went on earned blue belt in BJJ 2015 and alongside her husband, opened Gracie Barra Hawkesbury in 2015.
With the health and wellbeing of children and adult students in mind, Sinem completed First aid training and is CPR accredited. She has a full working with children check and is a certified Gracie Barra instructor who is ready and able to help students of all levels reach their goals.
Sinem is also an avid music lover! She achieved her certificate IV in music in 2008 Enjoys listening to and making music in her spare time. Outside of the BJJ studio and her music room, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and contributing to the community.
